CHIPATA PASTORS BLESS CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT

Chipata, September 18, 2019, ZANIS—The Chipata Pastor’s Forum has blessed the constitution amendment process saying the current constitution has a lot of lacunas which need to be corrected. Citing the public order act as one of the laws that need refinement, the forum has argued that the act is an outdated piece legislation and has outlived its usefulness.

Speaking at a press briefing through Bishop Wedstone Banda, who is also Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Provincial Chairperson, the forum has proposed the abolishment of by-elections while further condemning the proposal to re-introduce the position of deputy minister saying both will be a financial drain on national resources.

The pastors added that the National Dialogue Forum(NDF) was legally constituted for a good cause and was representative of relevant sectors of society and was well balanced according to the national dialogue act of 2019.
Other proposals made include; maintaining the 50+1 threshold, political parties to reveal sources of their funding, Presidential nominees being Christians, Zambia being constitutionally recognized as a Christian nation, modifying the name of the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs to Ministry of National Guidance and Christian Affairs, and reducing the campaign period to two months from three months.
